For those of us who run a Debian/Ubuntu server, a very handy package is cron-apt, which will (at 3am by default) check for updates, then download, but not install them, then email you to notify you of updates.

Saves SSH’ing in every day to run ‘apt-get update && apt-get upgrade’, especially on Debian Stable, where updates happen infrequently

(I was just reminded of this today, when my server mailed me to say that updates to postfix were ready to be installed xD)

I’ve just changed my blog to only allow registered users to comment. However, those of you using LiveJournal can use OpenID to login - just put in the URL to your LJ - cloakable.livejournal.com for me, into the openid login section.

believe just how fucking dense I can be sometimes

My MP3 player, a venerable Creative Zen Touch 30GB has started the process of finally dying. So I start looking for a replacement. I took a look at the iTouch, and was tempted, though slightly put off by the inflated price. The Archos 705 WiFI was highly tempting, and the price is extermely reasonable. Some bad points (proprietary connecter, fast charging needs a £80 add-on).

Then I realised: My N800 already has a perfectly good music/video player as well as supporting SDHC cards! 16GB cards are quite reasonable now, so I’ll probably grab one tommorrow, slap it into one of the SDHC slots, and copy over my collection

I backed up my posts and comments, and dumped the database. The wordpress reinstall went well… the import… failed. Oh well, at least I can comment on my own blog again!
