As some of you may know, I went on a camping trip this weekend. It started off well enough, catching the bus to Bristol city center, where I stopped off in the Knights Templar for a bite to eat and a pint of 1664, and found I’d completely forgotten about the Bristol LUG meet there! (Sorry guys.)

After that, at about 4:30pm I headed into Bristol Temple Meads to catch the Taunton train, and got a late train that was headed off earlier than the one I intended to catch. It was PACKED though. Urgh, the heat.

Got off the train at Taunton, then the waiting began.
And the waiting.
Then some more waiting.
Then somebody from the group found me, followed shortly by yet another. Then the rest of the group.

As one of the three with tents, I went to the camp site first, then partly put my own tent, helped someone else, then finished my own. All I can say is: thank god for modern tent designs - mine was easy to put up, even singlehanded.

Everyone else turned up towards the end of this, and both barbeques were lit. Drinking and jokes began, then food was served. Towards the end, at night, someone pulled out fire poi, dipped them in parrafin, and gave an incredible display, followed by more drinks and jokes, then sleep.

Well, I say sleep, but what happened was more ‘lie back and listen to my tentmate snore, wishing for sleep’ :p

Thankfully I did manage to get soe sleep, and was up and about for a sunny morning, some breakfast, and more rum. After that, some sunbathing, then a quick shopping trip for drinks and aftersun cream, and suntan cream.

After that, though, we lazed about, someone got in pizzas, then we packed up our kit, and headed home

The train from Taunton was about 25 minutes late, but was virually empty, apart from a noisy group of chavs, who fortunatly got off after a couple of stops. Train arrived in Bristol Temple Meads at about 10:30pm, then a walk to the bus stop, a ride to my door, then (ahhhhhh) bed.

My MP3 player, a venerable Creative Zen Touch 30GB has started the process of finally dying. So I start looking for a replacement. I took a look at the iTouch, and was tempted, though slightly put off by the inflated price. The Archos 705 WiFI was highly tempting, and the price is extermely reasonable. Some bad points (proprietary connecter, fast charging needs a £80 add-on).

Then I realised: My N800 already has a perfectly good music/video player as well as supporting SDHC cards! 16GB cards are quite reasonable now, so I’ll probably grab one tommorrow, slap it into one of the SDHC slots, and copy over my collection
